What is a spray tan?
A spray tan is made up of a solution called dha (dihydroxyacetone) and a bronzer which is mixed together and put into a cup that is attached to a spray gun. The spray tech then will spray you from head to toe (if you wish). You will be dry in about 5 minutes so you can get dressed and continue your day. The dha will take about 3 to 7 hours to appear and will last about 3 to 5 days depending on how well you maintain it.
What is dha and is it safe?
Dha (dihydroxyacetone) is a colorless sugar that reacts with the skin proteins, including amino acids in the outermost layer of the skin. The reaction causes a browning affect which looks very similar to a healthy natural tan. The tan fades as the dead layers of the skin slough off, just as in normal tanning, about 3 to 5 days.
Dha is safe and has been FDA approved since 1973.
